🌱 Getting Started

Cucumbers and the companion crops in this bundle are warm-season plants that love full sun and warm soil. Direct sow after your last frost date when soil temperature reaches at least 60°F. A trellis is recommended for most cucumber varieties to save space and improve airflow.

☀️ Sun Requirements

Cucumbers need full sun — at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Insufficient sun leads to fewer fruits and more disease. Position trellises to maximize light exposure on all sides of the plant.

💧 Watering

‍

Water at the soil line to keep foliage dry and reduce disease. Cucumbers need consistent moisture — inconsistent watering leads to bitter or misshapen fruits. Aim for 1–2 inches of water per week and mulch well to retain moisture.

✂️ Harvesting

‍

Pick cucumbers every 1–2 days once they reach harvest size. Leaving overripe cucumbers on the vine signals the plant to stop producing. Harvest pickling cucumbers at 2–4 inches and slicing cucumbers at 6–8 inches for best flavor.

🧺 Storing Your Harvest

‍

Cucumbers store best refrigerated for up to a week. For pickling cucumbers, process promptly after harvest for the best crunch and flavor. Dill can be dried or stored stem-down in a glass of water on the counter.
