🌎 USDA Growing Zones
Tokyo Long White Bunching grows well across USDA zones 3 to 9. Direct sow in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked, or in late summer for a fall harvest.
🌱 When to Plant
Direct sow seeds 2–4 weeks before your last spring frost, or in late summer for an extended fall and winter harvest in milder zones. Successive plantings every 3–4 weeks keep scallions on the table all season.
📐 Spacing
Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep. Thin to 2 inches apart in rows 12 inches apart. Tighter spacing is fine if you plan to harvest as baby scallions.
💧 Watering
Keep soil consistently moist, especially during germination. Once established, an inch of water per week is plenty.
🌾 Harvesting
Harvest when stalks reach 6–8 inches tall and 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter. Pull the entire plant, or cut individual stalks at the soil line to encourage regrowth. Use fresh in salads, stir-fries, or as a garnish.
This was my first time growing tomatoes and these grew well. The growing guide was really helpful. Making sauce with my own tomatoes felt like a big deal.
Bought this and it was the perfect starting point. The mix meant something was always growing. So much fun. Thank you
