🌱 Getting Started
Tomatoes are the centerpiece of this bundle and they reward you for giving them a little extra care.
You can start all four tomato varieties indoors 6–8 weeks before your last frost. Transplant outside when nighttime temperatures stay above 50°F.
The companion crops (basil, arugula, corn, dill, cilantro, and more) can be direct sown outdoors in spring.
☀️ Sun Requirements
Tomatoes need at least 6–8 hours per day of full sun to develop their best flavor and yield.
Companion herbs like basil and parsley are flexible and can handle 4–6 hours, making them great for any remaining garden spots.
💧 Watering
Consistent watering is critical for tomatoes. Irregular moisture causes blossom end rot and cracked fruit.
Water deeply 2–3 times per week rather than lightly every day.
Mulch around plants to retain moisture and stabilize soil temperature.
✂️ Harvesting
San Marzano and Roma are ready when fully red and slightly soft.
Cherry tomatoes are ripe when they pull easily from the stem.
If you harvest regularly, the plants will keep producing all season long.
🧺 Storing Your Harvest
Never refrigerate your homegrown tomatoes because cold temperatures destroy their flavor and texture. Store at room temperature until fully ripe.
San Marzano and Roma tomatoes are ideal for making and freezing sauce, which can keep for months.
